Rite of Passage

Have you tried Google Translate? The girls have been into learning Spanish lately so they have used it to discover how to say different words and phrases. However, they located the speaker icon that will pronounce any word/sentence and say it in English (English to English). Now they have a robotic voice that will say anything. So far, it has been fairly innocent (sans the potty talk) and frankly reminded me of the times my friend and I giggled as we looked certain words up in the dictionary. This is what I found on the Flip Video.

Having a professional sounding voice say something silly is just funny. Is this the modern twist on the old dictionary look-up?

Oh, I can relate to this video in MANY ways!  If I had to pick a couple...but I don't think I'm AS mean as Debra :) but Raymond is pretty close to Rod.

Here's Cee the Science Olympian on the morning of her competition.  (I think the hot water and hot dryer helped a bit, she'll be able to wear this shirt in her college dorm room - it's gathered in the back).  The competition was very well organized and well-represented from many private, Gate and technical focused schools and even a large school from the Bay Area.  There was a gap in how Cee's team prepared and then competed.  Meaning they practiced their pasta bridge w/ unlimited pasta and when they got there they saw they were only given 8 pieces of varied sized spaghetti.  Ooops - it was fun and they used their minds to figure it out.  Next year we'll have our game on :)

Jae has been obsessed with wearing the most realistic cast she can come up with.  This is an ace bandage with paper wrap so she can have everyone sign it.  Cee received these crutches from Papa one year as a birthday present.  That's all she wanted.  What's with my kids and orthopedic medical apparatus?  

Okay, don't laugh.  These are one of those knitting disasters...you know when someone is excited about knitting and they make you wear funky creations in ugly patterns.  Okay, so I've learned that variagated yarn has it's place in the sock world only.  These were suppossed to be hip fingerless mittens in Kaye's favorite colors.  She just laughs when she puts them on. Trying to tell her it's "hip to be square."  She's not falling for it yet.  

A Different Time

Inspired by Pioneer Woman's post this morning.  Cee, who stayed home from school today, and I doubled over with laughter seeing the transformation of our family.  I definitely like the constrained look of the far past better then the all over the place look of the 70's-90's.  If I had to, I would definitely put my trust in the first family.  Go to Yearbook Yourself and have a little fun.  Warning! time will be eaten up.

Never Thought

I never thought I'd ever say these things, let alone at the dinner table...

~Did you just throw your booger at that window?

~Just because we didn't laugh at your fart, doesn't mean we don't love you!

Yes, it is true.  Jae was a bit miffed that her sister said "ewwww, you have a booger hanging out of your nose," so she made a face, huffed, picked it, and threw it at the window (with an overextended throw).  I heard it hit.  Then at dinner she became sad, when we asked her what was the matter, she said "you guys don't love me because no one laughed at my fart."  

My goodness, I didn't think such things would be an issue with girls!  ...but(t) I guess apples don't fall far from trees :)

When You Know You Have A Planner

Tonight before going to bed, Kaye asked me if we could sit down tomorrow and go over each day on the calendar and tell her what is happening this month.  Yep, I think she is type A.

Sweet Cee has a long list of prayers for little babies.  We have noticed that she quietly keeps praying after we're done.  When I asked her about it she said she was praying for Elizabeth, that God would give us another baby, and about 5 other babies/children/expecting Moms that have recently been born, have a health concern or are expecting.  If someone asks her to pray, she will remember and do it.  

Jae comes up with some turned about ways of saying common phrases.  One of the little girls in her class last year was named Paris and she would give her little gifts of bracelets or hair clips in the morning.  Jae told me after school, "I think Paris knows what pretty is!"  The other day she asked me if I thought she was a "good smarter?"  I think she meant if I thought she was smart.  I don't know but that's probably the worst way of asking that question.  :)

The Crazies I Find in the Photo Booth

Photobooth is a feature which came free with my well loved MacBook.  It has provided a lot of laughs so far.  I let the kids mess around on there pretty freely so I come across some pretty weird characters.

This one I did for Jae's Huggy Bear Journal.  She has to write about her day with Huggy so just for fun we added his adventure to the moon.

Now we're getting into some alien pictures.  I took this back photo at the beginning and I found Kaye and Cee's adaptation today.  

Cee looks like she would be the frontrunner at a commercial casting call for Kleenex. 

Some alien form showed up from the slumber party.

Kaye enjoys this Superstar interpretation a little too much.  Really, we realize it was a huge error in judgment to let them watch parts of it.  They always beg to rent it again but we say "no."  Unfortunately, it hasn't left their memories.

This one of Jae looks like a certain scary movie in the early 80's that I've always been too scared to watch. 

I promise this looks just like Cee's ultrasound picture minus the hair!

Oscars in Review

Man it takes up a whole day to watch the Oscars these days.  Whew, hard work.  Kaye and I mainly watched together.  She helped me take notes and gave me her opinion (reminded me of my Mom and I watching Miss America).  I wonder if this has any merit at all?  So, I better just call it my break and the kind of fun you'd have as a little kid, doodling on your folder (sort of worthless).  So, here are our winners:

Living in a Van Down by the River

I just can't get this out of my mind. It's been 15 years since I first saw this skit on SNL.  Still, I reference the line, every time I have a messy car...which means I reference it often!  The video itself is a bit crass.  I wish I could edit it.  It's SNL afterall, so if you don't like late night t.v. material, it might not be for you.

When I have an unexpected passenger in our car or one that I'm comfortable with enough to see my car situation, I prep them saying, "watch out for the mess,  it's like living in a van down by the river." Instead of showing their disgust, they laugh which makes me feel a little better.  

Hmmm, maybe I should go clean my car?
